Dwight "Lee" O'Kimosh, "Na Guesta Weed" (Sitting Eagle) age 55, of Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Lee was born on October 27, 1960 in Keshena, the son of Leroy Stick and Audrey E. O'Kimosh. He was raised by the traditional and spiritual values of both the Menominee and Arikara Tribes and was proud to share and teach his culture. Lee was a master craftsman of Native American traditional art. He was the main artist who designed and constructed the Menominee Nation Eagle Staff. Lee was a very talented bead worker, moccasin maker, porcupine quill worker, hide tanner, bustles and dancing sticks maker. He made Native Art work on behalf of the tribe for gifting distinguished guests, including International Countries. Lee was also a champion Fancy Dancer and danced at the White House, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., the Milwaukee Indian Community School, and the Milwaukee Indian Health Board. Lee also participated in the "March to Madison" with his grandparents, the O'Kimosh's in the 1970's. He enjoyed playing and watching most sports and was loved by his uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins and will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Lee is survived by his fiancée, Catherine Shawanomitta; three children, Ted Huff of Green Bay, Konoka Stick of Milwaukee, and Diana Blackhawk of Madison; four step children, Laurie Bautista, Miranda Bautista, Jeff Silas, Jr., and Faye Silas all of Green Bay. He is further survived by his grandchildren; his mother and father, Audrey and LeRoy; one brother, Melvin L. Stick, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Traditional services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the O'Kimosh residence, N334 Pine Meadows in Keshena with Chief Dave "Nahwahquaw" Grignon performing traditional rites. Burial will be in the O'Kimosh Cemetery. Visitation will be located at the O'Kimosh residence starting Wednesday, February 10, 2016 after 4:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Friday.
