Edith Elaine Waupoose, age 85 of Shawano, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Oak Haven Assisted Living in Shawano. Born on August 30, 1926 on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Nellie (LeBeau) Bowker. Edith attended the Haskell Institute at Lawrence, KS and later worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. On April 14, 1951 she was united in marriage to Richard Waupoose in Washington D.C. The couple moved to Keshena in 1972 and became members of the St. Michael's Catholic Church. In her free time, Edith enjoyed watching baseball and football. Edith is survived by: 2 nieces, 2 nephews and cousins back in South Dakota; and Richard's extended family including a special niece, Louella Small. Edith was preceded in death by: her husband Richard on December 3, 1984; her parents; 3 brothers; and a sister. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 4-7pm and at the church on Monday after 10am until the time of the service. A parish wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 7pm.
