Edna J. (Marquardt) Lieg, age 85 of Shawano, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 in Shawano surrounded by her loving family. Edna was determined to live long enough to see the results of Super Bowl XLVI and to find out if her numbers won. Born on December 25, 1926 in the Town of Washington near White Clay Lake, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mathilda (Heller) Wegner. She was a graduate of Bonduel High School. In 1947 she was united in marriage to Arnie Marquardt at the Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano. Arnie preceded her in death in 1969. Edna later married Leo Lieg in 1975 and he also preceded her in death in 1977. Edna worked as a waitress at the L&L Ranch for nearly 40 years where she was known for not taking guff from any of the patrons. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Peace UCC in Shawano. She enjoyed bowling and competed in many state and national tournaments. She also enjoyed taking care of her flowers, loved to play cards and was a member of several card clubs, golfing, and enjoyed watching sports including baseball, football, and NASCAR and would get in on many pools. Edna had a knack for cooking and was famous for her delicious dumplings and potato pancakes. Edna is survived by: her daughter, Nan (Harvey) Mueller of Shawano; 2 grandchildren, Tech. Sgt. Scott Mueller who is stationed at the Minot AFB in ND, Stephanie (special friend, Stewart) Mueller of Shawano; several nieces and nephews; and her Grand-Puppy, Bailey. Edna was also preceded in death by: her infant grandson, Edward Mueller; and 4 brothers, Harvey, Myron, Lloyd and Ervin Wegner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano with the Rev. Marty Black officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday after 9am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
