Edward F. Hansen, age 95 of Shawano, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Shawano Medical Center. He was born on April 13, 1917 in Wittenberg, the son of Dr. F.W. and Ella Hansen. After graduating from Wittenberg High School in 1934, Edward served for 21 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC). He then completed a meat apprenticeship in Chicago, IL. On June 18, 1938 he married Adeline Hull of Bowler and the couple resided in Chicago for 1 ½ years. The couple returned to Wisconsin where Edward became Meat Manager at a National Food Store in DePere. In 1941 the company added a meat department at their store in Shawano and Edward was made Meat Manager there. In 1945, Edward enlisted with the United States Navy to serve his country during WWII. After his honorable discharge he resumed his duties at National. He also served as a Shawano Alderman for two terms from 1948 to 1951. In 1954 he was transferred to a new large supermarket in Wausau and in 1957 he was made a District Manager in Milwaukee, in charge of about 15 stores. In 1965 he was promoted to Meat Operator and was in charge of all the National Food Meat Departments in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. At that time they had as many as 68 stores. After retirement, Edward and Adeline moved back to Shawano where Edward served on the Shawano Board of Review and the Board of Appeals. Edward is survived by: a son Robert (Joan) Hansen of Dunwoody, GA; a daughter, Mary Ellen (Norm) Keller of Chippewa Falls; 3 grandchildren, Mark (Teresa) Hansen , Jill (Chris) Kehl, Erich Schiehlen; 2 step grandchildren, Brian and Daniel Keller; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Schweger of Green Bay; and nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Adeline after 57 years on June 24, 1995; his parents; and a brother, Robert. Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Loretta Waegli officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Wittenberg, alongside his beloved wife.
