Obituary

Elder Robert Koeller, age 85, was called home to glory on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, surrounded by his family. Elder was born October 6, 1927 to Arnold and Martha (Schwenke) Koeller in the Town of Larabee in Waupaca County. He was baptized into his heavenly family on October 30, 1927. Elder was raised on the family farm in rural Clintonville and graduated from Clintonville High School. He worked for area farmers before serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. After returning from the service he was employed at Montgomery Ward in the service department for several years. He then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years. Elder was married to Aldine Anne Chicks from 1951 to 1955. On June 29, 1957 he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Goldacker. The couple lived in Shawano, WI, St. Paul, MN and Green Bay, WI and most of their married life was spent in rural Bonduel. Elder was a devoted Lutheran, spouse, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He enjoyed finding ways to make things work better. He also liked playing cards and board games with his children and grandchildren and was still able to beat them in a game of cribbage in the past few months. Elder is survived by: 3 daughters, Bonnie (Daniel) Sperberg of Pine River, Martha (Martin, Jr.) Pieper of Wilson, Lisa (John) Gast of Shawano; 4 sons, David of Gresham, Peter of Milwaukee, Elder, Jr. of Madison, Mark (Denise) of Osceola; 11 grandchildren, Jill, Erica, Travis, Kyle, Sean, Angela, Amie, Melissa, Michelle, Matthew, Jessica; 4 great-grandchildren, Julia, Jack, Luke, Adriana; 5 siblings, Irene Koeller, Carlton (Joyce) Koeller, Arlyn Koeller, Luvine (Jim) Mielke, Robert (Dolly) Koeller; 2 sisters-in-law, Merna Koeller, Henrietta (Richard) Anderson, Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Robert (Carolyn) Goldacker. Elder was preceded in death by: his wife, Betty on March 18, 2004; his parents; 4 siblings, Albert Koeller, Carston Koeller, Luella (Marvin) Schlender, Roger Koeller; and in-laws, LaVerne Koeller, Elsa (Arthur) Witter and Max (Joyce) Goldacker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Zachow. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel on Tuesday from 4-8 pm and at the church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the service. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
