Ellen E. Fandler, age 94 of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at a local nursing home. Born on December 11, 1917 in the Gresham area, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Ethilda (Otto) Hohn. On May 1, 1945 she was united in marriage to Ernest Fandler in Seattle, WA. After marriage the couple moved to Alaska where they started a family and lived for more than ten years. While living there, the couple owned and operated the first public outdoor swimming pool. In 1957 the family moved back to the Gresham area. Ellen enjoyed being a member of the Assembly of God Church in Shawano. Her greatest joy in life was moments spent with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling, as well as farming, gardening, quilting and sewing. She was a loving wife, nurturing mother, and caring grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by all. Ellen is survived by: her 3 sons, Frederick (Deborah) of Dallas, TX, Ronald (Rachael) of Gresham, Daniel (Diane) of Minneapolis, MN; 4 grandsons, Ryan, Ramsey, Matt, Mike; 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur Hohn. Ellen was preceded in death by: her husband, Ernest on January 28, 1987; her parents; a brother, Daniel; and a sister, Doris (Arno) Heins. Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church in Shawano with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Elias Lutheran Cemetery in Town of Herman. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Saturday from 4:00pm-6:30pm and at the church on Sunday after 3:00pm until the time of the service. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
