Emerine E. Penass, age 80 of Keshena, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Born September 1, 1931 in Keshena, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Madeline (Waupoose) Corn. On October 20, 1951 she married William Penass Jr. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 5, 2001. Emerine was very active in the community. She was employed as a Senior Companion, a Home School Coordinator for the Community School, a Headstart bus monitor and Teachers Aide, School Nurse for St. Joseph School, Clerk at the Menominee County Courthouse and an active member of Great Lakes Native American Elder Association. Emerine was a very caring person, her door was always open. She provided foster care for many, many children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Emerine was an avid Packers fan, loved bingo, an avid bowler, she loved spending time at the lake lot and an active follower of the Menominee County BABA baseball teams (one of the Tree People). She is survived by: her eight children; Richard Penass, Keshena, Rae Ellen (Roger) Baker, Hayward, WI, Beverly (Donnie Sr.) Dodge, Shawano, Patricia (Patrick) Firgens, Keshena, William III (Mary) Penass, Keshena, Kevin Sr. (special friend Michelle) Penass, Keshena, Brenda (Erwin Jr.) Besaw, Shawano, and Alan ("Moon") Penass, Keshena. She is further survived by 29 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren as well as a sister, Luella (Loren) Small and brother in law Wayne "Bunker" Pecore. Emerine was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Bill, one grandson, Anthony Penass, brothers Raymond Sr. and Wesley Corn, and sisters Glenda Pecore and Beverly in infancy and daughter in law Glenda. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Keshena. Family and friends may call at the parish hall starting at 4pm on Monday until the time of the service on Wednesday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at the parish hall on Tuesday at 7pm. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
