Obituary

Emgard Alma Zimdars, age 96 of Leopolis, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at a local nursing home. Born on April 3, 1915 in the Town of Pella, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Graper) Zahn. On July 15, 1939 she was united in marriage to Herbert Zimdars at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Marion. The couple farmed in the Town of Seneca until their retirement in 1974. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Embarrass where they lived together until Herbert's death on June 12, 1994. Emgard continued living in the Embarrass area until 2009, since then she resided with Bill and Sylvia. In addition to helping on the farm, Emgard also worked for several years at the Carding Mill and also taught for 4 years at the River Bank Road and Willow Creek Schools. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda where she was active in Ladies Aid. She was also active in the Tilleda Advancement Club and the Leopolis Card Club. Emgard was a very talented quilter and had proudly made more than 4,000 quilts throughout her life. She also enjoyed reading. Emgard is survived by: her son, William (Sylvia) Zimdars of Leopolis; her daughter, Lois (George) Graper of Pella; 4 grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron) Pingel, Shelly Zimdars, Dr. Angie (special friend, Brooks Laber) Graper, Cindy Graper; and 3 great-grandchildren, Tayten, Joryn and Meylor. Emgard is further survived by: 2 sisters-in-law, Bernice Zahn of Clintonville, IdaBelle Zahn of Shawano; and a brother-in-law, Alvin Zimdars of Shawano. Emgard was preceded in death by: her husband, Herbert; 2 sons, Wayne and Donald Zimdars; a grandson, William W. Zimdars; her parents; 5 brothers, Alvin, Harvey, Carles, Melvin and Roy Zahn; and 2 sisters, Edna Haufe and Irene Schultz. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with the Rev. Dennis Creswell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday after 9am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
