Ernest "Ernie" Louie Wahsquonaikezhik, Sr., age 64 of Keshena, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at home.  Ernie was born on March 15, 1956 in Birch Island, Ontario, Canada to the late Margaret and John Wahsquonaikezhik. On August 28, 1982, Ernie was united in marriage to Annette Marie Dodge in Chicago, Illinois. He was retired from Menominee Tribal Enterprises. Ernie enjoyed working on cars, loved gambling at North Star Casino, and playing Bingo. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping them out. Ernie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ernie was survived by his wife of 38 years, Annette; children, Cheyenne (John, Jr.) Miller of Green Bay, Shakoka Wahsquonaikezhik of Appleton, Jesse (Caitlin) Wahsquonaikezhik of Keshena, Onawa (Darwin Thunder) Wahsquonaikezhik of Keshena, and Ernest (Taylor Chevalier) Wahsquonaikezhik, Jr.; grandchildren, Ahke-Nepowew, Angeliese, Johiah, Isaiah, Nathaniel, Paul, Phillip, Jr., Aubree, LaRayiah, Jeremiah, Josiah, Jesse, Jr., Zophia, Armani, Jax, Harmony, Kaycee, Ramon, Jr., Elvavo, and Leaizah; siblings, Christina (Cecil) Sinobert of Sagamok; Josette (Brad) Wahsquonaikezhik of Winnipeg, Jean (friend, Andy) Debassige of Sudbury, Francis (Beverly) Wahsquonaikezhik of Sault Saint Marie, Luke (Tara) Wahsquonaikezhik of Fort Alexander, Manitoba, and Tina (Ken) Mcurley of Birch Island. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons and grandchildren, Shaw-wah-osso-way, Ramon, Starfire, Darwin, Jr., and Francis; sisters and brothers, Theresa Haswood, Bernadette Recollect, Gabriel Wahsquonaikezhik, Rita Wahsquonaikezhik, Annette Wahsquonaikezhik, Bertha Wahsquonaikezhik, Celina Wahsquonaikezhik, Patricia Wahsquonaikezhik, Ida Wahsquonaikezhik, and Adam Wahsquonaikezhik.

Services will be held for Ernie at 5:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until the time of service.
