Esther Kay Zimmerman, age 58 of Marion, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012 in Shawano. Born on November 9, 1953 in Harmony, MN, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Clara E. (Starks) Tostenson. After graduating from high school and college, Esther worked as a CNA and Surgical Tech but later found her true love was in Ministry. She served as a Pastor for Non-Denominational ministries and later started IME, Independent Ministries of Evangelism. She was also active in prison ministries and taught Bible Studies at the Old Town Hall in Pella. Esther was a truly generous person who would buy and make blankets for the homeless shelter, fill backpacks with school supplies for needy children at the beginning of the school year, and would make care packages for needy families at Christmas and Thanksgiving. On May 6, 2000 she was united in marriage to Fred "Fritzie" Zimmerman at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the Town of Pella. Esther was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church where she was active in Vacation Bible School and taught the Sabbath Classes. She was also active at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church teaching confirmation classes and helping with the youth in services for Christ. Esther also enjoyed camping and fishing and loved kids, especially the many she babysat for. Esther is survived by: her husband, Fritzie; her son, Shawn (Jenny) Boydston; 4 step-children, Shane Halvorson, Fred (Tammy) Zimmerman, Jr., Terri Jo (Terry) Kust, Jason (Kim Anker) Zimmerman; 19 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and a blessing baby, Jonathan. She is further survived by: 2 brothers, Leonard (Kitty) Tostenson, David (Chris) Tostenson; 2 sisters, Jean Blaney, Elaine (Duane) Kipp; 10 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janet Romberg, Mary Firgens, Elmer (Pat) Zimmerman, Betty Christianson, Lorraine Lohrentz, Ruthie (Arnie) Kutchenriter, Dorothy Bowan, Sally (Jim) Peterson, Nancy Laude, Billy (Kathy) Zimmerman; and numerous other relatives and friends. Esther was preceded in death by: her stepson, Steve Halvorson, Jr.; her parents; her first husband, Steve Halvorson; 2 brothers, John and Raymond Tostenson; a sister, Mary Ann (Benny) Gilbertson; and 2 brothers-in-law, John Zimmerman and Jim Blaney. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the Town of Pella with Pastor Jennifer Czarnota officiating and co-officiant David Guerrero. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 5-8pm and at the church on Monday after 10:00am until the time of the service.
