Evelyn A. Bowman, age 84 of Bowler passed away at the Langlade Memorial Hospital in Antigo on Sunday, May 20, 2012 after a short illness. Born on September 22, 1927 in the Town of Red Springs, she is the daughter of the late Ambrose and Pauline (Peters) McGee. Evelyn married Quinton Bowman in Waukegan, IL who preceded her in death on January 11, 1990. She enjoyed cooking and would sing while doing so. She cooked for the Stockbridge Tribal Elderly, Head Start programs, the Church of the Wilderness, and numerous other community events. Evelyn was a great mother, grandmother and special aunt who enjoyed fishing and picking berries with her grandchildren, spending time with family, playing cards and volunteering her time with the community. Evelyn was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness. Survivors include: 4 daughters, Prena Wollenhaup of Bowler, Evelyn K. Bowman of Milwaukee, Stephanie (Wayne Peters) Bowman of Gresham, Bertha (James) Shepard of Bowler; 3 sons, Quinton V. (Shirley) Bowman of Bowler, Harold "Whitey" (Debra) Bowman of Cecil, Keith (Karla) Bowman of Shawano; 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a best friend, Eunice Stick and numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Pat Delgado. Evelyn was preceded in death by: her husband, Quinton; her parents; an infant daughter; 2 sons, Frank and John; 2 brothers, Charles and Elwin McGee; 4 sisters, Lorena Pleshek, Nellie Schwebke, Bertha Elm and Irene Moon. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Burial will be in the Stockbridge Indian Burial Grounds. Visitation will be at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the services.
