Evelyn R. "Evy" Smith, age 93 of Shawano and Green Bay, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Green Bay. Born on May 27, 1919 in Columbia County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Erna (Dallman) Krinke. On May 2, 1942 she was united in marriage to Archie D. Smith in Fond du Lac. Evy had a zest for life that was evident in her many worldwide travels, as well as in her active volunteer life. Throughout the years she supported St. Mary's Hospital, Shawano Community Hospital, the Cub Scouts, Extension Homemakers, and AARP just to name a few. Evy's creativity could be found in many of her projects. Whether it was sewing, quilting, crocheting or knocking down walls to remodel or redecorate homes, she left her personal touch on this world. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano and most recently resided at Woodside Manor in Green Bay. Evy was a strong and determined woman. Her recent victory over Hodgkin's Lymphoma proved that once again. We love you mom, thank you for showing us how to take on adversity and triumph. Evy is survived by: her daughter, Kay (Mike) VanBoxel of Green Bay; 3 sons, Gary (Mary) Smith of Lusby, MD, Neal (Diane) Smith of Fitchburg, James (Sally) Smith of Grand Rapids, MI; 8 grandchildren, Kevin, Matt, Andy and Nicholas Smith, Kristin Bezio, Maria Przybelski, Jenae and Breckin VanBoxel; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Doris) Krinke of Friesland; and a sister, Vivian Treml of Seymour. Evy was preceded in death by: her husband, Archie on April 25, 1998; a son in infancy; and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Len Evers officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday after 9:30am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Groteluschen and the staff of Green Bay Oncology for their relentless dedication that provided them with additional wonderful years with Evy. Also, deepest gratitude to the staff at Woodside Manor, especially Ashley, for going above and beyond to make Evy feel "at home." www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
