We are saddened to announce the passing of Gary Walter Habeck, age 78. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Meng Unity Hospice in DePere. He was born in Wausau, on September 24, 1947, to the late Walter and Joyce (Piatek) Habeck. Gary lived a life centered on family, friendship and loving the outdoors. He began his career as a salesman with Hostess Cakes and later for Little Debbie. This was where he began connecting with people and building lifelong friendships throughout his many years of working in the industry. On October 31, 1970, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Sharon Zaletel in Sheboygan. Gary's pride in family was evident to all, and his grandchildren brought a special light to his life. His passion in life was fishing, whether it was casting for smallmouth on colorful fall afternoons or drilling through the ice on frozen winter days. In 2006, he and his wife moved to Shawano Lake. Living on the south side of the lake gave him the perfect backdrop for these adventures.

Gary is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Habeck; his sons, Nic (Katie) and  Wally (Claire); his grandchildren, Joy, Nora, Edward and May; his sister, Sandy (John) Sharer; his brother, Scott; his sisters-in-law, Suzanne Habeck and Pat Zaletel. He is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Joyce; a brother, Randy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Wilma Zaletel Sr.; and his brother-in-law, William Jr.

Private family services will be held at a later date when the water is soft, honoring his love for the lake.
