C. Laabs
November 6, 1933 – November 5, 2020
Gaymond "Gay" C. Laabs, age 86 of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Gay was born on November 6, 1933 to the late Paul Emil and Dorothy Emma (Roohr) Stasek in Colby, Wisconsin. She graduated from Owen Withee High School and went on to further her education by earning her beautician license. In her youth Gay and her sister Shirley would go to all the roller rinks from Colby to Wausau whenever they could. Gay and her friends would go out to various places where she enjoyed playing her hum strum. Later she worked as a seamstress working for clothing manufacturers and then worked for Dreier's for 10 years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Gay enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, and knitting. She loved attending to her flowers and vegetable garden and would spend endless hours canning. Gay also had a knack for baking and was known specifically for her delicious cinnamon rolls.
Gay is survived by her daughter, Lana (Mark) Dittman; son, Darwin Laabs; grandchildren, Michael (Amber) Schmidt; Megan (Matt) Vomastic, and Nicholas (significant other, Hanna) Laabs; great-grandchildren, Miranda, Mason, Kasey, and Jason; and sister-in-law, Lois Stasek. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Paul Stasek, Ronald Stasek, and Shirley (Ewert) Owen.
Private family services were held.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Paiser's Oak Haven and ThedaCare Hospice for the wonderful care given.
