George William Callahan, Sr., age 88 of the Town of Wescott, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his home. Born on December 17, 1924 in Milwaukee, he was the son of the late John and Ida (Miller) Callahan. George was the youngest of 8 children born to the couple; Ida, Viola, Jane, Clarence, Gertrude, John and Dorothy. After he graduated from high school, George enlisted with the United States Army to proudly serve his country during World War II where he was a Purple Heart recipient. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 and on May 18th of that same year he was united in marriage to Adeline Phillips in Milwaukee. The couple made their home and raised their children in the Milwaukee area where George worked as a machinist until retiring. George was recently awarded his Bronze Star for his heroic efforts during the war. George was a gentle soul who enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching the birds. George is survived by: 2 sons, George (Enith) Callahan, Jr. of Shawano, David (Sheila) Callahan of AL; 7 grandchildren, Matthew (Margie Story) Callahan, Vicki (David Mikle) Callahan, Andy (John Davidson) Bagley, Aaron (Elizabeth) Bagley, Arnie (Angela) Bagley, Lisa (Jeromie Carden) White, Dawn Bagley; numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Daniel (Kris) Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was also preceded in death by: his wife, Adeline; a daughter, Kathleen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel with the Rev. Moira Finley officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Bonduel American Legion Post #117 at the funeral home following the service. Inurnment will be in the Wisconsin Veteran's Cemetery in King on Wednesday. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Bonduel on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm and on Tuesday from 10:00am until the time of the service. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
