Mohawk, Sr.
May 15, 1938 – November 28, 2023
George O. Mohawk, Sr., age 85, passed away on Tuesday November 28, 2023, surrounded by his family in Appleton. George was born on May 15, 1938, in the Town of Red Springs son of the late Milford "Riley" and Elizabeth "Liza" (Welch) Mohawk, Sr. George enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly for three years before receiving his honorable discharge. On August 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Carrol Ninham in Shawano. George lived his life for his wife until she preceded him in death in 2018. George worked at Chrysler in Kenosha for many years before retiring. He was an extremely hard worker and could fix or build just about anything. George always put the needs of others before his own and was always helping others. In his free time, he enjoyed feeding and watching the birds.
George is survived by his children, Linda (Harold) Katchenago, Verna (Timmy) Malone, George (Lisa) Mohawk, Jr., Sheila (Tim) Miller and Jerry (SeraLee Azzolina) Mohawk, Sr.; nine grandchildren, Jess, Heather, Mitchell, George III, Steven, Kasandra, Kyle, Jerry, Jr., and Jordan; ten great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ziva, Jax, Aaliyah, Abbagehl, Carrol, Willow, Leland, Brendyn and Gracee; siblings, Ellen Schreiber, Mabel Miller, Donna (Mike) Bucholtz and Milford (Louann) Mohawk, Jr. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Carrol; his parents, Riley and Liza; and brothers, Michael Mohawk, Sr., and Jerry Mohawk.
A prayer service for George will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Red Springs Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mohican Veterans and the Gresham American Legion Post # 390.
