Obituary
Gerald Eugene "Corny" Cornelius, Sr., age 78, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, February 29, 2016.
Gerald was born on October 5, 1937 in Shawano, the son of the late Palmer and Muriel (Wicklund) Cornelius.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Hanson on January 30, 1960 in Navarino.
Gerald worked in Milwaukee at GMC and later at the US Postal Service.
He moved back to Shawano and was employed by FWD and 3D Fire Apparatus and Elite Fire Apparatus of Tilleda before retiring.
Gerald is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed watching stock car racing and shooting pool.
He was an avid Packer fan and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
Gerald loved his family—he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as he loved life.
His sweet smile and soft blue eyes were a true reflection of his big heart and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gerald is survived by:
his wife of 56 years, Shirley; their five children, Linda (Ken) Spreeman of Bonduel, Terry (Jenny) Cornelius of Menasha, Larry (Renee) Cornelius of Shawano, Dawn (Larry) Gueths of Shawano, and Gerald "Butch" (Amber) Cornelius, Jr. of Shawano; 13 grandchildren, Tami, Erica, Holly, Heather, Josh, Eric, Brittney, Jordan, Tyler, Jaken, Levi, Payton, and Brady.
He is further survived by 9 great-grandchildren, Dean, Kenzie, Lexus, Bree, Madilynn, Lauren, Laney, Lincoln, and Nathan; as well as one sister, LaVern Lund of Menominee Falls and one brother-in-law, Bill (Karen) Hanson.
He was preceded in death by:
his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with Rev. Scott Ludford officiating.
Burial will be in the Jerusalem Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
