Obituary

Geraldine V. Love Stephens, age 92, of Shawano, passed away on August 21, 2019. Geraldine was born August 6, 1927 in Milwaukee, to the late Glenn and Catherine (Zeeman) Love. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1944 with honors and went straight into the work force. On April 12, 1975, Geraldine was united in marriage to Ralph J. Stephens, Sr. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in White Clay Lake. Ralph preceded her in death on January 25, 1991.

Geraldine worked diligently as a medical secretary and posting clerk at Cantwell-Peterson Clinic, which would later be known as Shawano Clinic. She took great pride in her work and her numerous responsibilities which included organizing new programs and recording procedures, assisting in changing the coding and billing systems, attending advisory meetings, and assisting many doctors with new protocol throughout her career. Geraldine dedicated her life to her career from July of 1952 up until she retired in December of 1990. As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church she worked as a Sunday school teacher and was a choir member for 20 years. Geraldine assisted in setting up the Shawano Ambulance Service. She was also involved with many other offices and organizations including, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Advisory Board for the Medical Assisting Program for 19 years, 15 of which she sat as a chairperson, the Navarino Nature Center Board of Directors for 21 years which during that time she held the office of Secretary, and the City of Shawano Tree Advisory Board as the Secretary.

Geraldine is survived by: her step-children, George (Mary Ann) Stephens, Nicholas (Miko) Stephens; daughter-in-law, Katie; grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Erik, Kyle, Michelle, and Sophia Stephens; she is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Glenn and Catherine; her husband, Ralph J. Stephens, Sr.; her son, Ralph, Jr; and one sister, Marceline Love Zeitlow.

In following with Geraldine's wishes no services will be held. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
