Obituary

Gloria Ann (Madison) Hoefs, age 76 of Shawano, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 8, 2020 after a short battle with brain cancer. Gloria was born on January 18, 1944 in Green Bay to the late Marvin and Violet (Wetzel) Madison. She was the youngest of two children. She was educated in the Pulcifer and Gillett school systems and was a graduate from the class of 1962. Gloria was married and blessed with three beautiful children. She worked hard to provide for her family and moved to Shawano to raise them.

Gloria was a dedicated employee as a Lab Technician for 20+ years for Vlasic Foods until starting a job with KI. After retiring, she worked part time at the Shawano Leader.

Gloria was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church and loved attending services. She was the treasurer of the TOPS group that she met with weekly until her health prevented her services.

Gloria loved her faith, spending time with her family, gardening, mowing her lawn, and decorating her yard with many handmade cutouts for all seasons. She was known for her famous potato salad and pear applesauce, her love of dark chocolate, and huge collection of frogs. At noon on weekdays you could always find Gloria in her chair watching her soap opera Days of Our Lives. On the weekends she enjoyed attending events that her grandchildren were involved in as well as catching up with her sister on the phone gossiping about the week events she encountered.

Gloria was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She leaves to cherish her beautiful soul, her children, Lou (Deb) Hoefs, Linda (Kyle) Gawlick, and Bill (Simone) Hoefs; grandchildren, Courtney Amundson, Casey (Gobby) Hoefs, Nicole Hoefs, Will Hoefs, and Alyssa Alcorta; her sister, Ramona (Donald) Genke. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Gloria will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 16, 2020 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, Wisconsin. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gloria's name for the St. James children's reading fund.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the care team at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, ThedaCare  of Appleton, The Appleton Cancer Center, and the many Registered Nurses and CNA's from Compassus who cared for her.
