Gordon James
Waupekenay, Sr.
January 27, 1954 – January 30, 2024
Gordon James Waupekenay, Sr., age 70, passed away on Tuesday January 30, 2024. Gordon was born in Keshena on January 27, 1954, to the late Joseph and Cecilia (Neconish) Waupekenay. In 1972, Gordon graduated from Shawano High School. He was united in marriage to Pamela Teller on December 1, 1972. Following high school, Gordon enlisted in the United States Marines and served his country honorably. Upon returning from his military service, he attended NWTI while there learned carpentry and worked as a carpenter for many years. He worked for tribal housing and started Waupekenay Builders with his brother, Ted. In his free time Gordon loved to golf. He was a very proud grandfather and loved his family.
Gordon is survived by his children, Gordon (Keta Quiver) Waupekenay, Jr., Brandon Waupekenay, and Marni (Kayla Eagle) Waupekenay; grandchildren, Nigel, Dylan, Jalen, Alyiss, Brandon, Jr., Karina, and Tavia; a great-granddaughter, Dariona; his former wife, Pamela Waupekenay; and siblings, Shelby (Leslie) Kaquatosh, Catherine Waukau, Mary (Eugene) Jorgenson, Ted (Terry) Waupekenay, Steve Waupekenay and Janet Waupekenay. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Henry, Robert, Bernard, Joseph, Patricia and David.
A service for Gordon will be held at 11:00 am on Monday February 5, 2024, at the Neopit Community Center Military Honors will be conducted at the community center following services by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. Visitation will be held at the Neopit Community Center beginning on Sunday February 4, 2024, at 2:00pm and continuing until the time of the service on Monday.
