Obituary

Guinevere "Gwen" Rosnow, 88, of Shawano, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 25, 1924 in the Township of Red Springs. In 1944, Gwen enlisted with the United States Navy where she furthered her education and proudly served her country during World War II. On June 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Jerry Rosnow. Gwen received her real estate broker's license and worked 13 years for the U.S. Government Farm and Home Administration. Although Gwen loved to hunt, fish, and bowl, her greatest passion was golfing. The last day the Golden Sands Golf Course was open this year was extremely cold, but that didn't stop her, she simply put on her long johns and gathered the strength to play. Gwen also enjoyed her weekly visits to the Zion Lutheran Church where she made quilts that support the World Relief Missions, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Shawano American Legion Post #117. Gwen was also a member of the St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil and actively supported the Catholic Council of Women and the food pantry. She is survived by: husband, Jerry, of 62 years; three children, Dr. Jan Rosnow, Terri (Charles) Bridges, and Bill (Kathy) Rosnow; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jacqueline Rosnow; and two brothers, Earl (Marion) Plass and Don Plass. Gwen was preceded in death by: her parents, James and Clarabelle (Tousey) Plass; two sisters, Juanita (Roland) Krueger and Helen Plass; and a brother, James Plass. A celebration of Gwen's life will be held at the St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil on Saturday, January 5, 2013, with visitation starting at 10:00 am. A memorial mass officiated by Father David McElroy O Praem and Deacon Mike Grzeca will be held at 11:00 a.m. Military Rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the church following the service. Online condolences can be sent to www.swedbergfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help feed the poor at: St. Martin Helping Hands Fund, 407 S. Warrington Street, Cecil, WI 54111. The Rosnow family wishes to give special thanks to Heartland Hospice for their excellent care, Swedberg Funeral Home (Shawano) who assisted with the arrangements and to all of her great friends for their love and support.
