Sr.
November 13, 1937 – April 23, 2019
Guy Gerald Grignon, Sr. age 81, of Keshena, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was born in Keshena on November 13, 1937 to the late Jerome and Sunday (Tourtillott) Grignon. He spent his entire life on the Menominee Reservation growing up in Neopit with his many siblings and later settling in the Chickney Creek area among family and friends. His life was guided by his faith and devotion to the church. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and many sports either participating or watching. He excelled in sports during his youth and was a four sport athlete at Shawano High School. He earned all-conference honors in basketball, football, track and baseball. He was a key figure in the 1956 State Basketball Championship. He was generous in sharing his knowledge with young athletes looking to improve their performance. He was especially kind and you could count on him for a good story, quick wit and laughter. He retired from Menominee Tribal Enterprises in March of 2017 after 54 years of service, primarily as a lumber truck driver.
He is survived by: his wife Roberta (Barnes) Grignon; his children, Jerry (BJ), Jackie, and Derrick Grignon all of Keshena, and Lois (Grignon) Peeters and Gerald Grignon of Kimberly; his grandchildren, Joshua and Clint Gauthier, Leshon and Khyla Grignon, Jacoby and Anahkosa Grignon, Domonic Caldwell, Angel, Jessey and Jeremiah Grignon, Christopher, David, Timothy, and Joshua Peeters, and Marissa and Andrea Grignon; his siblings, Sharon Waupoose and Mary Claire of Neopit, and Robert (Arlene) Grignon of DePere; in-laws, Lauri Barnes and Mario Munoz of Keshena, Kristy (Larry) Lindner of Shawano, Antoinette (Ken) Bundick of Oshkosh, and Ardith Barnes of Shawano; along with numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, other relatives, friends, and special nephew/son Orman "Chief" Waukau.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Guy Grignon, Jr.; grandsons, Jedidiah and Dakota; siblings, James Grignon, Jerry Lee Grignon, Michelle Grignon, Carol Warrington, Stanley Grignon, Joan Waukau, Jerilyn Grignon, Dana Grignon, Sr., Constance "Connie" Waupoose, and Arlene Wimmer; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Flora Munoz; in-laws, Gordon "Phillip" Waupoose, Irvin Waupoose, Sr., Mary Pat Grignon, and Marilyn Grignon.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Dave Barrett officiating. Burial will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery in Keshena. Visitation will be held at St. Michael's Parish Hall from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 until the time of services on Monday. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at St. Michael's Parish Hall.
