Gwendolyne Mae Wilson, age 67 of the Town of Waukechon, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 19, 1945 in Mauston, she was the daughter of Ina (Hobart) Boge and the late Willard Babcock. After graduating from DeForest High School, Gwen began a career at American Family Insurance in Madison. In 1979 she was proud to be named the first female underwriter in this organization. A few months later the family moved to Shawano and had called it home ever since. After staying home for a few years to dedicate her time to her family, Gwen returned to the insurance world for a while before starting her own business, The Custard Delight Shop. She was the manager and custard maker. Among Gwen's fun part-time jobs were her many years as a Weight Watcher Leader. Although Gwen's diagnosis of MS changed many factors in her life, she continued to volunteer as long as her health allowed. She was a general 4-H Leader for 18 years and was proud that the club grew from 9 members to over 30 during her involvement. At the Methodist Church, Gwen served on numerous committees, was chair of education and provided the leadership for the Easter Sunday breakfast for several years. Gwen loved decorating her house and each season the interior totally changed with the appropriate décor. Christmas was her favorite and there were close to 100 Santa's and over 50 snowmen showcasing the Christmas spirit. She was proud of her husband, Doug and was very supportive of her family's sheep enterprise. Her pride of the sheep farm could be seen throughout the house with her collection of over 65 decorative sheep. With Doug's frequent travel, Gwen carried the load of school, church, 4-H, and many other activities of her four busy children. She was very proud of the adults they had become and was ever more proud of her seven grandchildren whom she cherished every visit. Her fridge shows off all the grandchildren's many accomplishments. She was a very proud wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by us all. Gwen is survived by: her husband of 38 years, Doug; her 4 children, Tina (Craig) Schlonsky of Wadsworth IL, Teri Bohm of Shawano, Tami Wilson of Shawano, Roy (Lacey) Wilson of Shawano; 7 grandchildren, Mason and Samantha Bohm, Dylan and Austin Singer, Felicity and Cordelia Schlonsky, Kenley Wilson; her mother, Ina Boge of Rio, WI; and 5 siblings, George Babcock, David (Barbara ) Babcock, Jackie Boge, Leslie (Jim) Selkirk and T.O. (Cindy) Babcock. Gwen was preceded in death by: her father, Willard; and her brother, Daniel in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Shawano United Methodist Church in Shawano with the Rev. Domnik Israel officiating.
