Hazel Marie Stuewer, age 79, of South Branch, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 in Shawano. Hazel was born in Keshena on May 9, 1937 to the late Joseph and Alice (Miller) Johnson. On November 10, 1956, Hazel was united in marriage to Bernhard E. Stuewer in South Branch. The couple lived in the Fond du Lac area for over 30 years before returning to South Branch after Bernie's retirement. Hazel enjoyed watching the wildlife around the lake, dancing, listening to country music, fishing and working around the house. She loved her family immensely and more than anything loved spending time with them. Hazel was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.
Hazel is survived by: her beloved husband of 60 years, Bernhard "Bernie" Stuewer, Sr.; their children, Bernhard (Sandy) Stuewer, Jr. of Fond du Lac, Alice (Darvin) Rickert of Oakfield, Gerhard (Cindy) Stuewer of Omro and Joseph (Jeannie) Stuewer of New Holstein; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Robert Johnson of Suring, Frederick Johnson of Green Bay, special sister, Jill (Paul Marroquin) Johnson of Suring; a sister-in-law, Loretta Wilber. She is further survived by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters, Crystal Kaquatosh and Esther Johnson; one brother, Jack Johnson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl Kaquatosh, Chantell Johnson, Marilyn Johnson, Dalton and Hilda Heimerman, LaVern and Violet Hinkfus and Gene Wilber.
A Funeral Mass for Hazel will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be held at the Father Dave Barret Hall on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 4:00 – 9:00 pm, again at the hall on Sunday from 4:00 – 9:00 pm and at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017.
