Henry D. "Sonny Boy" Shegonee, Jr.'s Obituary
Henry David "Sonny Boy" Shegonee, Jr, age 73, of Zoar, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018. Henry was born on April 20, 1944 in Shawano, the son of the late Henry and Florence (Waupenkey) Shegonee, Sr. On April 5, 1986, Henry was united in marriage to Verna Awonohopay in Keshena. He lived on the Menominee Reservation all his life and worked for the Menominee Casino. He enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo.
Henry is survived by: his wife, Verna; children, Daron, David, John (Carol) Awonohopay, Joey (Margaret) Awonohopay and Steven (Stephanie) Awonohopay; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Arthur; sister-in-law, Gwen Awonohopay; and brother-in-law, Tony (Jeanne) Awonohopay.
He was preceded in death by: one son, Aaron; his parents; two brothers, Edgar and Matt; and two sisters, Rose and Millie.
Traditional services will be held at Zoar Ceremonial Building with Mr. John Teller officiating with burial in the Zoar Indian Burial Grounds on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Friends may call after 3:00 pm Monday, January 15, 2018.
