Obituary

Herman W. Wasmund, Jr., age 85, of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 in DePere with his daughter by his side. Herman was born on August 6, 1932 in the Town of Washington to the late Herman and Helen (Giese) Wasmund, Sr.  On January 12, 1957, Herman was united in marriage to Joyce Giese in the Town of Hintz.  They celebrated 52 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on February 11, 2009.  He enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and earning two Bronze Stars.  He enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, working on the farm and was a 40+ year card player.  Herman lived in the Town of Washington for most of his life, coached and played baseball and was known as a jack of all trades and master of all.  He was a member of the Gillett American Legion Post #300 and Immanuel Lutheran Church in White Clay Lake.

Herman is survived by: three daughters, Peggy (Ray) Lemieux of Appleton, Bette (special friend, Dale Diring) Schlies of DePere and Susan (Mark) Styczynski of Bonduel; grandchildren, Rebeca (Mike) Panetti, Anthony (special friend, Elizabeth) Christensen and Gary (special friend, Ally) Schlies; step grandchildren, Michael (Elisha) Styczynski, Andy (Trista) Schlies, Jonathan Lemieux and Dawn Marie (Mike) Jacoby; great-grandchildren, Corey, Chase, Elias,  Lily, Evelyn, Mike Jr., Shauna, Christopher and Isaiah.  He is further survived by his brother, Jerry (special friend, Rosemary) Wasmund of Cecil; sister, Donna (special friend, Ron) Larsen of Suring; half-brothers, Ricky and Bill of Burlington; and half-sister, Sharon of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, parents, Herman and Helen and a sister, Isabelle and son-in-law, Rick Schlies; brother-in-law, Leon Larsen; and sister-in-law, Jean Wasmund.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in White Clay Lake with Rev. Steven Pockat officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Gillett American Legion Post #300 and the Gillett VFW Post #8314.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
