Herold Chamberlin, 86, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, in Shawano. Herold was the only child born to Esther June (Detloff) Chamberlin and Elmer Chamber in Nebraska City, N. Born on April 21, 1938. He spent his childhood in Omaha NE. He graduated from high school and joined the Air Force on February 21, 1956. He met his wife Denise E. (Stafford) Chamberlin while he was stationed in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and they were Married on January 23, 1960. They had three children David (1960) Eric (1962) and Ann Marie (1967). During his time in the Air Force the family lived in California, New Mexico, The Philippines, Nebraska, England, North Dakota and finally retiring from KI Sawyer Air Force base in the Upper Peninsula of MI. After Retirement he went back to College at Northern Michigan University with his wife and graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science and accounting. He later got a job with the DNR they moved to Madison, WI 1989. They lived there for many years and when they decided to get out of the city they moved to Adams- Friendship, WI in 1995. He retired from the DNR after 20 years. Wherever they lived Herold was very involved in his church.
He ran the CCD programs with his wife he was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Knights of Columbus and in the choir singing, playing the guitar and piano. He was involved in the local theater group while in the Adams-Friendship area playing Clarence in It's a Wonderful Life and other plays with vocal parts. He loved his Ford Pick-up truck, good company, cold beer and really loved good Scotch. He always said to anyone new "want a cold beer go get one, don't leave my house hungry". He was a great cook. His most requested dishes were his stir fries and paella. He also asked what we wanted to eat when we went to visit. He loved to play cards and taught his kids and grandkids how to play hearts, Spade and pinochle. He loved to play board games with his grandchildren. A favorite was Clue and no one else could play Miss Scarlet like him. He loved to go the Sault Ste. Marie and spend time with his sister-in-law, Sharon and her husband, Joe playing cards and drinking beer. He went on many adventures with Ann Marie and her family going to New Orleans, South Dakota, "Out WEST" trip included seeing where he grew up. Copper Habor in a cabin for a week, Many times to Mackinac Island. Washington DC was the last of the big trips. Trips around WI included Wisconsin Dell, Apostle Islands, and many trips to Door County for wine tasting. No matter where the trip took us we found the wineries. He loved to fish, read and wood working. Always had his favorite snack stashed (peanuts) by his favorite chair.
He will be greatly missed by his Wife of 64 years Denise. He leaves his children David (Jodi) Chamberlin. Eric (Mary) Chamberlin and Ann Marie (Curt) Brei. Grandchildren: Daniel Chamberlin, Alyssa Chamberlin, Erica (Ron) Langworthy, Patrick (Nicole) Chamberlin, Andrew Chamberlin, Alexis (Lou) Fisher, Joel (Alexis) Brei, Dayne Cramer (Cameron Thompson), Tessa Brei, Theresa Chamberlin and Claire Brei. Great Grandchildren include: Ronnie and Emma Langworthy, Greyson and Carter Thompson and Flynn Brei.
Memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday November 8, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Leopolis, Wisconsin with Fr. Timothy Machila officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Inurnment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Caroline American Legion Post #456.
