Irene Helen Boerst, age 92 of Shawano, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Shawano. Born on January 23, 1921 in the Town of Herman, she was the daughter of the late August and Bena (Dey) Jeske. On October 15, 1939 she was united in marriage to Edwin A. Boerst at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in the Town of Lessor. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1970. Irene worked at Maple Lane Health Care Center for 22 years retiring in 1988. When not at work, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards and she loved talking on the phone. Irene was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Irene is survived by: 2 daughters, Bonita "Bonnie" (Philip) Marcks of TX, Jan (Allan) Dillenburg of Shawano; 4 grandchildren, Geoffrey (Ja) Marcks, Todd Dillenburg, Michael (Liisa) Marcks, Brian (Ericka) Kowalkowski; 9 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Macy, Meri, Sini, Brinley, Braedyn, Jordan, Josh, Carcin; a foster sister, Carol Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by: her husband, Edwin; her daughter, Marjorie on January 24, 1941; a son-in-law, Roger Kowalkowski; her parents; a brother, Clarence Jeske; and a sister, Leona Liesner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Gisele Berninghaus officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:00am until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Irene's nephew, Robert Liesner for all the time and attention he gave to Irene. Also to Irene's grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brian and Ericka Kowalkowski for always being there for her.
