Irene Westphal, age 99, of Bonduel, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021.  Irene was born in Zachow on September 2, 1921, daughter of the late Elmer and Ella (Fischer) Zernicke.  Irene attended grade school in the Town of Angelica and attended Shawano High School.  She went on to the Milwaukee Accredited Beauty School in Green Bay  On September 9, 1939 Irene was united in marriage to Fred M. Westphal, Jr. in Bonduel.  Fred preceded Irene in death on April 27, 1987.   In 1947 she opened Irene's Beauty Service in Bonduel where the former Bonduel Post Office was located and  she and Fred lived behind the beauty shop.  Irene also owned salons in Gillett and Pulaski.

Irene is survived by: two sons, Fred (Karla) Westphal and Martin "Marty" Westphal; grandchildren, Kris, Fred (Julie), Janet, Jenny, Todd, Troy, and Tami; great grandchildren, Allie, Matthew, Alyssa, Jonathon, Noa, Sierra, Macy, Kendra, Karter, Cole, Brett, and Reive; great-great granddaughters, Amelia and Arlene; one brother, Manton (Arlene) Zernicke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred; two brothers and sisters-in-law, LaVerne and Viola Zernicke and Howard and Phyllis Zernicke.

A memorial service will be held for Irene at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel at 11:00am on Saturday, September 4, 2021 with Rev. Mark Palmer officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00am until the time of the service.  A celebration of Irene's life will follow at Lakeshore Lanes Bowling Alley in Shawano.
