Ivan Francis "Sonny" Waupoose, Sr., age 78 of Milwaukee, passed away suddenly in Burlington surrounded by family on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He was born on February 19, 1944, to the late Alex and Sarah Josephine (Warrington) Waupoose in Keshena. On June 7, 1969, he was united in marriage to Janice E Caldwell at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2011. During their time together, Sonny enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, listening to 50s and 60s music, and hunting. He always made time to watch the Packers and Brewers, spend time with family and grandkids, and tell a good joke. Sonny proudly served in the United States Army.
Ivan is survived by: his children, Jeannette (Jody) Mueller, Burlington, Ivan Waupoose, Jr., Milwaukee; five grandchildren, Ivanna Waupoose, Mariah Waupoose, Dayna Waupoose, Elizabeth Mueller and Alexander Mueller; great grandson, Isaiah; siblings Rosemary Gengler, Leatha Waupoose Grinhaug, Lowell Waupoose. He is further survived by many nieces and nephew, including special niece Gloria Jean (Waupoose) Gierach, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Janice; parents; siblings, Gordon Waupoose, Sr., Alex Waupoose, Jr., LeRoy Waupoose, Irvin Waupoose, Sr., Everette "Butch" Waupoose, Sr., Xavier "Poncho" Waupoose, Delores Edith Waupoose Koszarek, Gloria Waupoose Herrera, Romilda Waupoose Wilson, Jerome Michael "Honeyboy" Waupoose, Patricia Waupoose Hayes, Antionette "Tudy" Waupoose Wilber, and Leila "Chip" Waupoose Rabideaux; and three in infancy, Edward Waupoose, Vivian Waupoose and Kenneth Waupoose.
A funeral mass will be held for Sonny at 10 am on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. Visitation will be at the Neopit Community Center starting on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 4 pm and will continue until the time of mass on Saturday, with Rosary Services scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2022 at 7pm.
