Jacob Jerome Maskewit Sr., age 49 of Keshena, was called to the spirt world on October 10, 2015, in Green Bay, at Bellin Hospital with his loving family by his side. Jacob suffered with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare disease that attacks the nervous system. He was born on November 23, 1965 in Antigo, the son of Carl J. "Chummy" Maskewit, Sr. and the late Sharon (Winneshiek) Maskewit. As a young man, Jake called Door County his home, until he moved to the Menominee Indian Reservation, spending most of his life in the Keshena area. Jake was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, shanging, walking, watching the Packers and spending quality time with his great nieces and nephews. In his younger years, he boxed for the Menominee Tribal Police Boxing Club, appearing in the National Geographic Magazine in August of 1974. He appeared in a PBS film, which showed his skills of trapping with his father and brother. Jake took pride in taking care of his sister Linda. Linda quoting Jake, "I love you my sister. Good night and see you in the morning" This was said every evening and at day light. "Good morning my sister" day to day I will carry his greetings of love. Jacob will be sadly missed by his family and friends, including, his son, Jacob J. (Maskewit) Zhuckkahosee of Florida; his daughter, Angel Tomow of Shawano; his father, Carl Sr. of Keshena; his sisters, Linda (Raphael Sr.) Boivin, Mary (Daniel) Tomow both of Keshena, and Sharon Maskewit of South Dakota; his brothers, Dale (Karen) Boivin, Jr., John Sr., Mitchell (Elizabeth) Maskewit III all of Keshena; nieces and nephews John Maskewit Jr., Janice, Jody (special friend Earl Wayka), Kandice (Alan), Vivianne, Dale III, Joy (Special Friend Jeremy Peters) Kitson, Danielle (Special Friend Mitchell Bailey) Tomow, Dorla, Toni, Melisa, and Adam; his great nieces and great nephews, Jade, Natalie Aubri, Raphael Jr. (special friend, Dakota Madosh), Madeline, Joseph, Sonny, Leila, DeJa, Jordyn, Kaiden, and Daniel Tomow Jr. He is further survived by great great niece, Lyneesa Mendez; cousins, Myrtle (Steve) Kitson, and John A. Boyd, III, whom he called "Brother"; aunts and uncles, Wendell "Windy" Corn, Donald "Buddy" Maskewit, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Delores Edgeton, Kathleen Sammons, Cynthia (Theodore) Gauthier, Dorothy (Joseph) Smith, and his most admired aunt, Laura Maskewit as well as his special, dear friend, Valarie (AKA Big Kahuna) Waupoose, LOL. Jacob is preceded in death by his wife, Debra, his daughter, Melissa Jane, his mother, Sharon (Winneshiek) Maskewit and one brother, Carl Jonson Maskewit Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Visitation will be at the Carl Maskewit Sr. residence, N276 Max Martin Rd in Keshena from 12:00 noon on Monday until the procession leaves for the funeral home on Thursday. There will be a parish wake service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
