James William Bayer, age 75 of the Town of Wescott, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in Appleton. Born on May 21, 1937 in Shawano, he was the son of the late William O. and Melba K. (Wall) Bayer. After graduating from high school, James enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for three years during the Korean War. After service, James ran the ARCO Service Station for several years. He then worked for Morning Glory for 21 years before retiring. On July 14, 1984 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Radtke in Shawano. James was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the RC Club and enjoyed building model airplanes as well as operating Lionel Trains. James also enjoyed woodworking, boating, hunting and going on fishing trips to Canada. James is survived by: his wife, Mary Jane; 5 children, Cindy Monroe of Shawano, Rick (Wendy) Bayer of Hobart, Linda (Jeff) Engel of Shawano, Nancy (Greg) DeGrave of Combined Locks, Bob Bayer of Shawano; 3 step-children, Laura (Stewart) Guex of Neenah, Toni (Rick) Dinse of Shawano, Susan (Don) Secor of DePere; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Mary Ann) Bayer of CO; and the family dog, Schnoz. James was preceded in death by: his parents; and a sister, Edith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Len Evers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday after 9:30am until the time of the service.
