James Allen "Bubzy" Boivin, Sr., age 76 of the Menominee Indian Reservation, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 in Shawano. Born on October 8, 1935 in Keshena, he was the son of the late Julius and Geraldine (Cota) Boivin. After graduating from high school, James enlisted with the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. On December 29, 1956 he was united in marriage to Isabell M. Lyons in El Paso, TX. After marriage, the couple owned and operated the Boivin Shopping Center & Oil Company and the Redskin Inn in Neopit until retiring. James also worked for the Menominee Indian School District as a cook and a custodian. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit where he was active in the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Menominee Tribal Enterprise Board, the Menominee County Board, the Shawano Menominee County School District Board and the Menominee County Aging Division Board. He helped organize the Neopit Redskins and the Neopit Little League and was a founder of the Menominee Snowmobile Club. In his free time James loved spending time with his family and enjoyed watching the kids play sports. He also enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling, hunting, watching the Packers and Brewers play ball, and going casino hopping in retirement. James is survived by: a daughter, Lorna (Dennis) Maulson of Shawano; 6 sons, Stewart of Grantsburg, Gilbert of Shawano, James Jr. of Shawano, Todd (Julie) of Shawano, Ralph of South Branch, Bart of South Branch; 16 grandchildren, Stewart Boivin, Jr., Kristin Boivin, Gilbert Boivin, Jr., Sabrina Boivin, Tristan Boivin, Jamie Maulson, Dennis Maulson, Jr., Alexandra Maulson, Pfc. Nicholas Maulson, James Boivin III, Ricky Boivin, Rachelle Boivin, Rolanda Boivin, Daniel Boivin, Samuel Boivin, Deion Boivin; 8 great-grandchildren, Jaymin Boivin, Brayen Boivin, Leslie Maulson, Erin Maulson, Lileigh Doud, Gabriel Boivin, Ricky Lee Boivin, Deondre Grignon; and 2 sisters, Deanna "Meenie" Kenote of Phoenix, AZ and Delores "Toodie" (Ron) Delabrue of Keshena. James was preceded in death by: his wife, Isabell on January 24, 1987; a son, Patrick; a granddaughter, Leslie Maulson; a grandson, Jacob Engel; 2 sisters, Julienne Lepscier, Glenore Miller; and a brother, Julius "Boop" Boivin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. Robert Rank officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation and the Menominee American Legion Post #497 at the church following the service. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Neopit. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday from 4-8pm and at the church on Saturday after 10am until the time of the service.
