James C. "Jim" Galbraith, age 83, of Shawano, passed away on April 10, 2016. James was born in Wisconsin Rapids on April 11, 1932, the son of the late Charles Alan and Mary Agnes (Flanagan) Galbraith. After high school, Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. In 1955, he was united in marriage to Virginia Packard at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. He was the former city assessor for Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids, and the city of Glendale, and later worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation until retiring at the age of 73. Jim was a quiet man who loved dogs, trout fishing, Ford Mustangs, and going for rides.
Jim is survived by: his children, Shirley Hinze of Shawano, Patricia (Robert) Rothe of Sussex and Geni Galbraith; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his former wife, Virginia; and a nephew, Joe Riggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathryn Riggs.
A graveside service for James will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano on Friday, May 13, 2016 with Rev. David Barrett officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post # 117.
