Obituary

James Allan "Jim" Hughes, age 86 of Cecil, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at his home. Jim was born on April 1, 1935, to the late Henry and Beatrice (Hall) Hughes in Milwaukee.  He graduated from Washington High School – Milwaukee, with the class of 1953.  In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Airforce, serving until being honorably discharged in 1957.  During his time in the Airforce, Jim met his wife-to-be, Barbara Abernathy. Jim and Barb were united in marriage on June 16, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama.  Shortly after his discharge, the couple, with their daughter Debbie, moved to Cecil and purchased a farm. For many years, Jim farmed, as well as driving truck. Over the years, Jim was an owner/operator, also driving for many trucking firms. Jim finished his professional driving career, retiring from Graf Creamery. Jim truly cherished all the friends he made throughout his many years on the routes.  Jim was a member of the Cecil American Legion Post 392 and Immanuel Lutheran Church – White Clay Lake

Jim loved motorcycling, NASCAR and football games.  He especially loved family poker games.  Jim had a vast knowledge of most things. This made him a master at T.V. game shows - Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, being his favorites. If you found yourself at Jim's house when his game shows came on, he would simply point at the couch. This meant you had to sit down and watch with him.

Dad's final years were more of a blessing to us who cared for and looked after him.  The bonds forged during this time will be everlasting.

James is survived by; his children, Julie (Scott Hermsen) Moesch, Bret (Terri) Hughes and Tim (Monica Trester) Hughes; grandchildren, Derek LaRock, Ryan (Ashley) LaRock, Greg (Ashley) Hughes, Alisha (John) Rusch, Cindy (Nick) Chmelka, Josh (Lisa) Hughes, Jeni (Andy) Plantz, Chad (Jess) Moesch and Chelsea (Kyle) Giesen and 22 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by; his wife, Barb; parents, Henry and Beatrice; daughter, Debbie LaRock and son-in-law, Duke Moesch, Jr.

A funeral service for Jim will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, with Rev. Steven Pockat officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of service.

Jim's family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary Laskowski, in appreciation for her loving care of him for the last two years.
