James D. Jeffrey, age 92, passed away Friday April 30, 2021, in Shawano. James was born in Green Bay on January 25, 1928, son of the late James A. Jeffrey and Augusta (Witkowski) Jeffrey. James attended Green Bay schools, graduating with West High School class of 1947. James was united in marriage to the late Joan Haslam. Joan preceded him in death in 2008.
James' first job after high school was with the W.P.A. on the vast railroad expansion and reconstruction project. James enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a paratrooper with the 17 th Airborne Division. He served in Nagasaki, Japan, as part of the Allied Occupation Forces. James also served his county as an Army Reservist until the 1980s. James was honorably discharged, achieving the rank of Sergeant of the Army.
After active duty, James joined his father in the family business, Green Bay Glove and Mitten, until the firm closed in the early 1980s. James then took a position as a manager at Bay Beach Amusement Park. From time to time, James had opportunity to drive the train – something he greatly enjoyed.
James enjoyed time spent at Abrams, where he owned acreage and a cabin. Being keenly interested in Native American History, lore and legend, James experimented with building a teepee on his property. Hunting and fishing was something he honed particular skills in. James was an ethical sportsman and abided by a strict code. In later years, James attended a West High School reunion, where he reconnected with a high school sweetheart. James eventually married Patricia Delmont. Pat preceded James in death in 2017. James' final years were spent in Shawano, where he was very happy.
James is survived by: his children, James M."Mike" (JoAnn) Jeffrey, Holly Jeffrey and Leah Kaplan. James is further survived by a grandson, James A. Jeffrey.
James is preceded in death by: his parents, his wives as well as two sisters: Jean Jeffrey Martens and Iva Jeffrey Lillge.
