James T. Nietzer, age 60, formerly of Gresham, passed away January 18, 2013 in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Jim was born on December 12, 1952 to Louise (Little) and Theodore Nietzer. He was united in marriage to Juliet Rivera in Negros Occidental, Philippines on August 6, 1996. They have two children, Jasper James and Anna Louise. Jim and his family have resided in Kuwait since 1998. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1975. He resided in California and Washington before pursuing a career in telecommunications. For over 35 years he worked in a diverse area of installation and testing of telecommunication systems, operation and maintenance of satellite communication earth terminals, cellular networks, microwave radio links, system and technical control facilities, and cryptographic equipment repairs. He supervised installation of equipment, testing and calibrations, scheduling, training and documentation of all operations and maintenance activities. He was instrumental during Desert Storm installing and working on satellite communications as a civilian. His work took him to remote ports around the world, in some cases laying the groundwork for new telecommunication systems. He has resided in the Marshall Islands, the Seychelles, Ascension Island, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and finally Kuwait. Jim is survived by his wife, Juliet and children, Jasper James and Anna Louise of Kuwait City. He is further survived by: 3 sisters, Charmaine (Bill) Arendt of Gresham, Nancy (Walter) Felty of Biloxi, Ms., Lisa (Tim) Nietzer of Appleton; a brother, Randy (Kimberly) of Gresham; sister-in-law, Judy Nietzer of Gresham; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Nietzer of Gresham. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
