Obituary

Jason Kurt Hagen, age 64, fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7) before being welcomed into eternal life on May 2, 2025.

Born on February 28, 1961, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Kenneth Keith Hagen and Joyce Carol Fahrendorff (Hagen), Jason grew up surrounded by family and the warmth of close-knit relationships. Baptized at Golden Valley Lutheran Church, Jason's faith journey was sponsored by his uncle, Ronald Hagen, and his aunt, Nancy Barsic. After his family moved to Shawano, Wisconsin, he forged a strong bond with his brothers, built a life rooted in family, and found joy in music and laughter.

A dedicated Boy Scout, Jason's journey from Cub Scouts onward instilled in him values that lasted a lifetime. His dedication to problem-solving and innovation led him to earn an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design Technology from Northeast Wisconsin Technical Institute in 1987. Jason was united in marriage to Mary Ann Welch (Hagen) on May 1, 1993, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pella, Wisconsin. Together they built a family and shared the journey of raising their children. As their lives evolved, Jason and Mary's paths eventually diverged.

In the years that followed, Jason faced battles that tested his resilience, confronting personal challenges while striving toward recovery. Despite setbacks, his efforts were never without courage. He walked the hard road with a heart full of hope, supported by his devoted brothers, his mother Joyce, and the unwavering love of friends and family who stood beside him through every challenge. His story was not defined by struggle alone, but by perseverance, hope, and the enduring strength of the love surrounding him.

Jason is survived by his children: Elyzabeth Hoffman (Kyle), who remained a steady presence in his life, sharing in his joys and challenges. He is also survived by his children, Cat Hagen (Mik) and Eliot Hagen, each carrying their own connection to him in ways shaped by time and distance. His grandchildren – Henry, Clyde, Lilith, and Artemis – brought light into his world. He is further survived by his mother, Joyce; brothers, Jack (Sherry), Jeffrey (Susan), and Joseph; and his ex-wife, Mary. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with Reverend Andrew Zobel officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 12:30 pm until the time of service. Inurnment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
