November 13, 1941 – February 1, 2016
Jerilyn Rosemary Grignon, age 74 of Neopit, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2016 in Shawano surrounded by her family. Jerilyn was born in Shawano on November 13, 1941, the daughter of the late Jerome and Sunday (Tourtillot) Grignon. After graduating from Shawano High School, she attended the University of Wisconsin, Lacrosse earning a Bachelor's degree. She went on to earn her Master's and Doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She also did post-doctorate work at UCLA. Education was very important to Jerilyn. She taught for 32 years; 17 years at Menominee Indian School District, five years at Johnson Creek, four years at UW-Madison, four years at College of Menominee Nation, two years at OK State, one year at Oregon Elementary and one year at Madison School District.
Jerilyn is survived by two sons, Dale (Melinda) Jensen of Colorado and Alan (Kathy) Jensen of Shawano; two grandchildren, Ashley Jensen and Daymon Unseth; and two great-granddaughters, Hayley and Peyton. She is further survived by her sisters and brothers, Constance Waupoose, Guy Grignon, Sharon Waupoose, Robert (Arleen) Grignon, and Mary Claire Grignon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Joan Waukau, Dana Grignon, Sr., James, Jerome, Michelle, Carol, Stanley, and Arlene.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the College of Menominee Nation. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
The family would like to send a special thank you Mary Lewellin for her friendship over the past 30 years.
