Jerry Bernard "Chquawehtam" "Yamahoppy" Shawano, age 64, of Neopit, passed away on October 21, 2015 at his home. Jerry was born in Keshena on July 14, 1951 to the late Harry and Lavina (Nahwahquaw) Shawano. Jerry attended Shawano High School and went on to become a plumber, eventually attaining his Master Plumber license. On August 5, 1994 he was united in marriage to Bernice Kapishkowit. In his younger years, Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He loved to have fun and make people laugh. He was always there to lend a hand when someone needed it. Jerry enjoyed going to the casino, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife, Bernice; his children, Twila (Beasto) Shawano and Kemawin (Robert) Dess, Jerry Nahwahquaw and Marquise LaMotte; Bernice's children, Valerie (Mark) Self, Muriel Waupoose, Rosemary (Shannon) Tucker, Leon (Sonja), George, and Mary Nahwahquaw, Denise (Christopher) Black, Leighton (Trisha), Leland, and Lisa (Christian) LaMotte; numerous grandchildren, including Dayna, Jerritt, Rikki, Olivia, Diondre, Wahpahnesew, and Peqtahseh and great-grandchildren as well as his brothers and sisters, Alberta Hatmaker, Quentin Shawano, Gwendolyn Hawpetoss, Gary "Jaymo" Shawano, Verna (Dan) Reiter, Linette Shawano, Jerilyn "Bedo" (Manzi) Waupoose, and Tina Shawano. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Laurie and Doreen and one brother, Francis. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Menominee Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Zoar with Reb. Gordon Oliver officiating. Inurnment will be in the Neopit Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Saturday. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
