Jessine Lois (Larson) Winter, age 84 of Shawano, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 22, 1928 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Loos) Larson. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Jessine was very artistic, and after graduating from high school, took art classes in Chicago. On December 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Galen Winter at her home in Clarendon Hills. During their early married years, they lived in Mexico City, Puerto Rico, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Jessine was a dedicated homemaker and mother to her three children. The family moved to Shawano in 1972. Many will remember Jessine bicycling or walking all around town. Jessine enjoyed tap dancing, working out with her friends at the Fitness Center, and participating in the Shawano Homemakers group. She was a member of Eastern Star. Jessine is remembered for her love of sewing and embroidered many shirts for friends and family over the years. Jessine was also known for her love of cats, and the household always had a collection of well-tended and much-loved house cats. Jessine is remembered lovingly and survived by: her three children, Kathryn G.W. (Robert) Cowdery of Tallahassee, FL, Julia M. Winter of Tallahassee, FL, Paul G. (Mary) Winter of Shawano; five grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Colleen Cowdery, Kelsey Tinsman, and Madelyn Winter; her older brother, Walfred (Bobbie) Larson of Bellevue, WA; her twin brother, James (Marilyn) Larson of Ft. Wayne, IN; and her many friends. Jessine was preceeded in death by her husband Galen on May 2, 2012. A memorial service celebrating Jessine's life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Shawano with a luncheon to follow. A memorial service for snowbirds, distant relatives and others will be held at a later date and announced by the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano.
