IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joachim Martin
"John" Bark
November 10, 1937 – June 12, 2024
Joachim Martin "John" Bark, age 86, passed away on Wednesday June 12, 2024, in Shawano. John was born on November 10, 1937, in Elbing, East Prussia, Germany to the late Hans and Lydia (Dost) Bark. On August 12, 1961, he was united in marriage to Janice "Jan" Schulz at St. Pius Catholic Church in Appleton. John was the owner of the wholesale frozen food company Bark and Keats Inc, which he ran until his retirement in 1988. John was proud to see that it was taken over by his nephew Rick Bark. He enjoyed playing the German card game Skat whenever he could find two other people who knew how to play. John spent numerous hours outside cutting wood and liked to boat and fish. He enjoyed a good "Bull Roast" and the camaraderie of the parties he hosted. In the winter months, John and Jan loved snowmobiling together. One of their most adventurous trips was taking a thousand-mile round trip starting in Shawano and going to Copper Harbor, Michigan with Rhonda and Gary. Together, they traveled thousands of miles throughout the United States. One of their most memorable trips was taking their RV to Goose Bay Canada with Clarence and Rosella. John had a calm demeanor but was free spirited and loved showing his goofy side when he got the chance. John was an amazing husband, father, brother, and Opa to his grandchildren and their friends.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jan; daughter, Julie (Jerry) Buntrock of Shawano; grandchildren, Lydia (Tyler) Walby and Isaac Buntrock both of Shawano; great-grandson, Michael; brother, Klaus (Regina) Bark of Burlington, WI; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Lynn Schulz of Wausau, WI. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Ellen "Susie"; parents, Hans and Lydia; brother and sister-in-law, Karl and Ingrid Bark; father-in-law and mother-in-law Merton and Genevieve Schulz.
A funeral service for John will be held at 11:00 am on Monday June 17, 2024, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil with Fr. Edward Looney officiating and assisted by Deacon Todd Raether. Burial will be at the church cemetery following services. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:00 am and will continue until the time of service.
