Joanne Marie Ackermann, age 88, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, in Shawano. She was born on February 18, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter to the late Edwin and Martha (VonSpreecken) Olson. Joanne graduated from Wayzata High School and has an Associates Degree from Minnesota School of Business and Laboratory Technique. She was employed by Dr. Hastings, Medical Arts Building, Minneapolis, and the Vogel Clinic, New Ulm, Minnesota. On August 18, 1956, she was united in marriage to Elmer F. Ackermann at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wayzata, Minnesota. After moving to Shawano, Joanne worked as a bookkeeper for twenty-four years for Phenix Manufacturing. Her hobbies included sewing, reading on her kindle and baking. She loved to travel, and the couple had some wonderful trips to Hawaii, Europe, Alaska, Branson, Nashville and the New England states.
Joanne was a faithful member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church. Over her life, she was always active in the church where she belonged having sung in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as congregational secretary, Altar Guild treasurer, and Stephen Ministry leader. She was also a past president of the Business & Professional Women and served on the Senior Citizens Commission.
Survivors include: her husband, Elmer, daughter Lonni (Greg) Karly, Fruita, Colorado; son Mark (Judith) of Albuquerque, NM; son Karl (Susan) of Green Bay, WI; grandsons Edward and James Ackermann, Albuquerque; granddaughter Joanna (Kevin) Walters, Fruita, Colorado; and granddaughters Mariah, Morgan, and Tess Ackermann, Green Bay, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lois (Earl), Bladow, and Barbara (Larrie) Schulz, and brothers Wallace (Donna), Victor (Ann), Charles (Victoria) Olson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, Shawano with Rev. Travis Kleinschmidt officiating. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. on until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Jakobi building fund. Swedberg Funeral Home is in charge of services.
