Joanne Patricia Meisner, age 80 of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, March 05, 2014. Born on July 22, 1933 in Mattoon, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Bernarde) Butts. After graduating from high school, Joanne furthered her education with a degree from the University of WI Madison. On June 30, 1956 she was united in marriage to Roger J. Meisner in Tigerton. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2000. Joanne was a volunteer at the Sacred Heart Catholic School library for 40 years and was involved with The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in her younger years. She was also a certified Master Gardener and avidly tended the flowers at the Navarino Nature Center and the Mielke Theater. Joanne was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano where she taught CCD for many years. She had also been a member of the Shawano County Homemakers in the 70's and 80's. In her free time, she loved being outdoors, fishing and tending to her many gardens. Joanne is survived by: her 3 sons, Glenn (Debra) of Fort Wayne, IN, Scott (Linda) of Shawano, Fred (Lisa) of Shawano; 7 grandchildren, Andrew, David, Michael and Paul Meisner all of Shawano, Dayna (Peter) Hoertsch of Menasha, Roni (Payton) Taylor of Wausau, Jeff (Jessica) Stamets of Fort Wayne, IN; and 6 great-grandchildren, Peter and Anthoni Hoertsch, Kayla, Lucas and Jacob Stamets and Emma Taylor. Joanne is further survived by: her father, Eldor (Patricia) Erdmann of Shawano; and 2 sisters, Sonja Stewart of Tigerton and Sandra Jones of Shawano. Joanne was preceded in death by: her husband, Roger; her mother, Gertrude Erdmann; her father, Charles Butts; and a brother, Charles Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Sunday from 5:00-8:00pm and at the church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of the service.
