Joe C. Vomastic, age 99 of De Pere, formerly of Washington Lake, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 in Green Bay. Born on October 15, 1912 in the Town of Waukechon, he was the son of the late John and Frances (Vladek) Vomastic and grandson of original Waukechon Settlers, Mathew & Josephine (Pribyl) Vomastic and Frank & Kathryn Vladek. On April 12, 1939 he was united in marriage to Lucille D. Berkahn in Shawano. After marriage, the couple farmed on Porter Road until 1965 when Joe went to work as the head sawyer for Blazer's Saw Mill in Suamico. He then worked for Morrison Lumber & Fuel, now known as Christensen Mills, retiring on October 1, 1977. After moving from the farm, Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motor home and was a member of the Good Sam Club. He also loved to polka dance and was a member of the Jolly Neighbors. He was an avid baseball fan and in his youth pitched for the Lunds Baseball Team. On one such occasion, Joe pitched for the Lunds team for $5 and spent the money on an airplane ride that landed on the Lunds baseball field. Joe was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Joe is survived by: his daughter, Joanne Vomastic-Muka of De Pere; his son, John (Verena) Vomastic of Manitou Springs, CO; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Vomastic of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 3 grandchildren, John Muka of Oshkosh, Dawn Araujo of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Amy (Jad) Duncan of Del Mar, CA; and 3 great-grandchildren, Brian and Emily Araujo and Miles Duncan. Joe was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Lucille on February 4, 1999; his parents; and 6 siblings, Jim, Adolph, Ernest and Alois Vomastic, Zita Seidenglanz and Kathryn Harrison. In celebration of Joe's 100th birthday, the Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
