John J. Genske, age 82 of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2011 in Green Bay. He was born on September 1, 1930 in the Township of Mukwa, Waupaca County to the late John Alfred and Blanche Lydia (Lambrecht) Genske. John served his country in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952 as an Electronic Technician stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War, with the 19th Bomb Squad from 1949 to 1950 and the 20th Air Force from 1950 to 1952. He was employed by the Soo Line Rail Road as a Traveling Agent from 1954 to 1992. John was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Red River; he served as a Trustee and was a member of the Dartball team. John is survived by: his loving companion, Shirley Sperberg, Red River; her children, Ronald Sperberg, Mike Sperberg, Rick (Pam) Sperberg all of Shawano, Lisa (Randy) Pleshek, Gresham; Shirley's nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his children, John A. Genske, Fond du Lac, Lisa M. (Mark) Stuckey, Ripon; four grandchildren and their children; sister, Dorothy (Russell) Bucholz, Weyauwega; sister-in-law, Joyce Genske, Fremont. He is further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers William and Lewis Genske. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Salem United Methodist Church in Red River with the Rev. Jerry Cho officiating.
