Obituary

John David Hart, M.D., passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 after a six year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. John was born in Sac City, Iowa to the late William and Erin (Cooney) Hart. He was raised in Hopkinton, Iowa. In 1962, he graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. On August 8, 1964, John was united in marriage to Donna Stoughton in Farley, Iowa. In 1967, John graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine. Following a year of internship in Flint, MI, John was inducted into the United States Army where he served as a flight surgeon in Vietnam for one year. Upon his discharge from the service, John and Donna moved to Shawano, where he joined Cantwell-Peterson Clinic, now ThedaCare. He practiced medicine for 40 years, never once having a sick day. John worked as a preceptor for the University of Wisconsin Medical School, mentoring senior medical school students. He was a life-long runner, participating in four marathons. John enjoyed golfing, downhill skiing, days at the cottage, bird hunting with his sons and his dog, Race, being outdoors, and sailing. He enjoyed traveling with Donna, especially their many trips to Europe. He loved practicing medicine, his patients, and his colleagues. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. It "warmed his heart" that his children and their families are so close with each other. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna; their children, David (Debbie) Hart, Susan (Michael) Daniel, Elizabeth (Aki Avelino) Hart, Sarah (Kevin) Hart McGuinnis, Matthew (Meghan) Hart, and Andrew (Libby) Hart; grandchildren, Tyler and Amy Hart, Quinn, Erin, and Sean Daniel, Anika Avelino, Madeleine and Keira McGuinnis, Ava, Mya, and Becker Hart, Norah and Isla Hart. He is further survived by his brother, Robert (Nancy) Hart; his cousin, Pat (Romelia) Cooney; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard (Loretta) Stoughton; sister-in-law, Mary Stoughton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Luke Ferris officiating.
