John Charles
Kriewaldt
February 16, 1944 – December 12, 2025
John Charles Kriewaldt, age 81, passed away at home on Friday December 12, 2025, after a lengthy battle with COPD and heart failure. John was born in Shawano on February 16, 1944, to the late Arthur and Ruth (Bublitz) Kriewaldt. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1962. After high school John enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in Vietnam. He served in the Army Reserves for many years before retiring as a major. He worked on the Appleton Police Force for over 20 years, retiring as a lieutenant.
John married Jennifer (Bentz) Lubinski on November 15, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They were old high school classmates and debate team members. John loved God and was an active and faithful member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. John was very proud of his family and cherished the memories he made with them.
He was an avid reader of history, politics, adventure and hunting magazines. John's favorite pastime was hunting-especially deer, elk, moose, bear and exotics. He was an expert marksman and many of his trophies were mounted.
John is survived by his wife, Jennifer; two children, Michael Kriewaldt and Amy (John) Muttart; four grandchildren, Miguel Kriewaldt, Maria Kriewaldt, Marcos Kriewaldt and Emma Muttart; three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Josiah and Isabel; his sister, Linda (Michael) Yde; and brother, Arthur Kriewaldt; Jenny's children, Steven Lubinski and Paul (Katie) Lubinski; 11 Lubinski grandchildren; Jenny's brothers and sisters, Mike (Lota) Bentz, Patrick Bentz, Greg Bentz and Jeff (Carol) Bentz, Rosemary Bentz and Reenie Haut. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Kathleen (Moede) Koepke; two nieces, Jill and Samantha; and a sister-in-law, Karen Bentz.
A memorial service for John will be held at 11:00 am on Monday December 22, 2025, at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in Shawano with Pastor Travis Kleinschmidt officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted by the Shawano VFW Post #2723. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Jakobi Lutheran Church building fund or the Shawano VFW Post #2723 building fund.
