IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Allen
Metoxen
April 19, 1944 – August 1, 2024
John Allen Metoxen, age 80, passed away on Thursday August 1, 2024, at his home in Shawano surrounded by his family. John relied on his faith and knew where he was going.
John was born on April 19, 1944, in Oneida, to the late George and Mary (King) Metoxen. On June 25, 1966, he was united in marriage to Shirley John in Sturgeon Bay. John worked as a welder for many years before deciding to go back to school to become a truck driver. He went on to work for Schneider National until retiring. John was a quiet but powerful man. He was always thinking of others. He loved working with and mentoring youth and became Grandpa and Papa to many over the years. In his free time John enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers and of course enjoying his favorite treat, sweet rolls with a good cup of coffee. His family was always the most important part of his life. He was very proud of each and every one of his grandchildren and he loved attending their various sporting events and activities.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; children, Jesse (Mary) Metoxen, Jennifer (Warren) Wilber, and Allen (Leighann) Sanchez; eight grandchildren, Jason, Shatara (Sabrina), Jesse, John, Cainen (Verenice), Natasha (Mequon), Westlyn, and Emmette; a great-grandson, Ezra; Godchildren, Ramsey Price and Christy Tolzman; and siblings, Audrey (Floyd) Williams, Merlin Metoxen, Alfred (Patsy) Metoxen, Laura Pruitt, and Bobby (Roxanne) Metoxen. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents as well as four brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service for John will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Pastor Matt Golie officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. John will be buried in the Oneida Assembly of God Cemetery. John's family requests that if John influenced your life in any way to please wear blue for his service.
