John 'Sugabo' Nahwahquaw, age 74 of Gresham, died on Thursday, September 13, 2018 in Shawano. John was born on April 30, 1944 in Keshena, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Waubanascum) Nahwahquaw. He is a graduate of Antigo High School. On August 13, 1966, John was united in marriage to Phyillis Boivin in Neopit. He was an iron worker for several years and then worked at Menominee Casino until retiring. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting pool and spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Phyillis; four children, Dora (Sterling) Bailey, Dena (Kenny) Perez, Deanna (Robert) James and Doreen Nahwahquaw; daughter-in-law, Michelle Nahwahquaw; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Joseph (Cynthia) Nahwahquaw of West Allis, Winnifred Nahwahquaw of Milwaukee, Lee Waupoose of Milwaukee, April (Allen) Dodge of Keshena and Peter Waupoose of Milwaukee. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Donald; daughter, Christine; great-grandson, Francis Wahsquonaikezhik; his parents; and siblings, Carletta Waupoose, Dennis Nahwahquaw and Doris Nahwahquaw.
Visitation will be held at the Zoar Ceremonial Building on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Sunday when the procession leaves for Nahwahquaw Cemetery.
